Obituary from Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, Boone, Iowa.

Marlys Phipps, age 81 of the Madrid Home in Madrid and formerly of Ames, died August 10, 2019 at the Madrid Home.

Following her wishes, Marlys has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be Friday, August 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at the Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, with Pastor Randy Abell officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport at a later date.

Marlys Eva (Westgate) Phipps, was born in Waseca, Minnesota on November 22, 1937, the daughter of Clell and Eva (Kritzer) Westgate. She graduated from George Washington High School in Los Angeles, California and attended LA Baptist College.
On March 7, 1958, Marlys married Donald H. Phipps in Los Angeles, California. The couple moved to Ames shortly after their marriage. Marlys was an ‘over the road’ truck driver, working alongside her husband in their business, Refrigerated Transport, hauling meat and produce. She also did the bookkeeping for the business, and provided bookkeeping services for other trucking and towing businesses. Marlys also was active in OOIDA (Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association

She and Donald enjoyed camping in their 5th wheel and daily coffee, cookies, and often times kringla together. She was involved with her Church and in earlier years, the school activities of her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Marlys is survived by her husband, Donald of Madrid; son, Harold Phipps and wife, Dawn of Polk City; daughter, Janine Seibert and husband, Jon of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Courtney (Jimmy) Edwards of Mission Hills, Kansas, Colin (Samantha) Seibert of Batavia, Illinois, and Andy (Brookly) Gerleman of Des Moines; great grandchildren, Harmony, Ava, and Zoe Gerleman; brother, Verlyn Westgate of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Heartland Baptist Church, 3333 Stange Rd, Ames, on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m., where the family will be present. On Friday, friends may call at the Church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

In memory of Marlys, memorials may be directed to the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
