From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Spaete, 68, of Nevada, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 10 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 11 at Cornerstone Church (56829 U.S. Highway 30) in Ames with Pastor Tom Nesbitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Becky was born October 19, 1950, in Biloxi, MS the daughter of Robert and Bobbie (Scobey) Arneson. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1968 and Luther College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. In high school, Becky was active in choir and band and a three-time All State vocalist. While attending Luther, Becky was a three-year member of the Nordic Choir under the direction of Weston Noble. On June 3, 1972, Becky was united in marriage to Roger John Spaete in Maquoketa.

Becky was the long-time secretary and former member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Ames and had also worked for Martens Law Office in Ames. During her membership at Grand Avenue Baptist, she actively participated in the church orchestra and choir, as well as serving many years as the choir director. She was an active member of Cornerstone Church in Ames where she was a part of the Psalm 92 coffee group and was a sixteen-year member of Ames Chamber Artists. Becky enjoyed music, especially singing, and played the piano, clarinet and guitar. She passed on a legacy of the love of music to her children. Becky also enjoyed reading, playing board games, knitting and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Becky cherished time with her family and especially loved spending time with her grandson.

Becky is survived by her son, Josh Spaete of Nevada; her daughter, Sarah (Jonathan) Bunge of Ames; her mother, Bobbie Arneson of Nevada; her grandson, Samuel Bunge of Ames; her brothers: Bruce (Cyndi) Arneson of Mesa, AZ and Bill (Patty) Arneson of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Church Adoption Fund in memory of Becky.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
