From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Lois Jean Sandvold of Nevada passed away at the age of 91 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 9 at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada with Pastor Duane Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

She was born on November 28, 1927, at home on the farm outside of Nevada to Harry and Hannah Sorensen. She grew up on the farm and a couple of her favorite activities were ice skating and riding horse drawn sleighs during the winter.

Lois married the love of her life, Juell O. Sandvold from Roland, Iowa on a snowy December 5, 1948. From that union they had three children.

Lois loved to fish and would go fishing with family and friends on an island in Lake of the Woods, Canada. There were many good times and great memories of fishing, swimming, cooking and playing cards.

She was a very classy lady and was the proud owner of the “Glass Peacock”, a fine gift and china shop in Nevada. She especially liked Halloween and would dress up as a green witch and startle shoppers and people passing by.

Lois had a great passion for flowers and vegetable gardening. She would spend many hours in her backyard potting plants and nurturing all the beautiful plants that she grew.

Lois’ greatest love was for her family. She is survived by her son, Steven (Marcia), daughter, Diane and son, Robert (Susan); five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Hannah; husband Juell and brothers: Richard, Kermit and Marvin.

Lois was a caring, generous, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be forever missed.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
