Funeral Services for Mrs. Hattery; Pioneer Collins Woman

Special to the Journal:
Collins, Aug. 4--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Margaret Hattery, mother of Chief of the Highway Patrol John Hattery, who passed away at her home north of Collins Friday evening, July 30, were held from the Collins Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Ida I. Roberts, pastor of the local church, in charge.

A double quartet, composed of Mrs. G. C. Fish, Mrs. Curtis Marsh, Miss Colla Wood, Mrs. O. H. Gearhart, E. S. Stuntz, Chas. Cooper, J. R. Witmer and Dr. J. M. Smith with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano, sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Have Thine Own Way."

The floral offerings were very beautiful and were so numerous that the front of the church was nearly filled with them. They most fittingly expressed the sympathy of the a large circle of friends in this community and the state as well. They were in charge of Miss Minnie Marsh, Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. O. N. Serbein. Ushers at the services were H. R. Sokol and O. N. Serbein.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins by the side of the husband and daughter, who had preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were chosen from longtime friends of the family and were Scott Marsh, Harve Southern, Sam Hyatt, Elsworth Campbell, Frank Holland and Noah Hyatt. The services were largely attended by friends and acquaintances of the members of the family.

Sixteen members of the Highway Patrol attended in a body as well as other associates of Chief John Hattery from the statehouse in Des Moines, and former associates from the courthouse at Nevada.

Short services were held at the home before going to the church and it was there that Rev. Roberts read the following obituary.
