Mrs. Ella Hagen, Native of Norway, Laid to Rest

STORY CITY -- Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 6, for Mrs. Ella Hagen with a prayer service conducted by Pastor Ocee Johnson at the Larson-Peterson Funeral Home, followed by services at the St. Petri Luthean church at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Marjorie Kenny sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," and at the close of the service "Beautiful Saviour." A lovely tribute to this 85 year old mother was given by Pastor Johnson, and a message of hope and comfort to the family and friends of the departed.

The pall bearers were nephews: Severin Rasmussen, Elmer Fardel, Helmer Satre, Herman T. Satre, Hilford Olson and Hilford Satre.

Beautiful floral offerings and memorial gifts amounting to $181.50 were given in her memory.

Relatives from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Stanbitz and daughter Louise of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Tysdal and daughter Rosella and Dorothy of Des Moines; Mrs. Walter Bartow and daughter, Elaine of McHenry, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Iver H. Satre and son Ronald and daughter Donnabelle, Mrs. Nora Oppendal, all of Bridelyn, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ludvig Satre, Hans Satre and Mrs. Ralph Ricken from Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Obituary

Ella Satre, the daughter of Hans J. and Ingeborg Satre, was born in Ytre Sogn, Norway, March 7, 1867. At the age of two years she immigrated to America with her parents, her brother, John and many others from Ytre Sogn. they came to Webster City Jun 18, 1869. She was the last surviving member of the group which came to America on the same ship of that year.

Her parents settled on a farm south east of Stanhope, where she grew to womanhood. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed January 29, 1882 in the Lake Center school house by the Rev. Nehem Christensen, pastor of the St. Paul church. The Lake Center school was also used as a place for church services for the community at that time.

She later was a member of the Brekke Lutheran church, also known as the Lake Center church.

After the church union in 1917 she became a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran church in Stanhope. As a young girl she attended school near her home and later completed a course in dressmaking in Story City.

May 25, 1891, Ella Satre was united in marriage to Nick E. Hagen of Stanhope by the Rev. A. J. Lee. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hagen established their home on a farm 4 1/2 mile southeast of Stanhope. They lived on the same place until August 1921, when due to Mr. Hagen's ill health, they moved to Story City.

Five children were born to this union. One daughter, Ida, died May 29, 1907 at the age of 12 years. Her husband passed away Dec. 26, 1923, at the age of 59 years. She leaves to mourn her death four daughters, Sophie (Mrs. L. P. Stanbitz), of Chicago, Ill.; Rosie (Mrs. Gene Tysdal) of Des Moines; Goldie (Mrs. Jospeh K. Ford) of Stanhope and Hildora Hagen of Story City.

She is survived by 10 grand children and one great grand child; and three brothers, Ludwig and Hans Satre of Blue Earth, and Iver Sate of Bricelyn, Minn., respectively; also two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hanson of Stanhope and Mrs. Austina Olson of Story City. Three brothers: Ingebrit, Isaac and John Satre preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hagen was a member of the St. Petri Lutheran church and a faithful worker in the ladies aid as long as her health would permit. Her main interests in life were her home and her family and friends and her church.

Mrs. Hagen passed away in her home in Story City on February 3 after a short illness of a few hours at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Interment was in the Lake Center cemetery.
