Funeral Services Held at Zearing for Mrs. E. W. Adams

Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. E. W. Adams, pioneer Zearing woman in Zearing at the Brouhard Funeral Home with a prayer service and the final rites at the Illinois Grove church in charge of her pastor, Rev. Arthur Moon.

Mary Pauline Wickham, a daughter of Horatio and Pauline Wickham, was born at the Wickham homestead northeast of Zearing on Oct. 7, 1866, and passed away at her home in Zearing at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 13 days.

On March 7, 1889 she as united in marriage to E. W. Adams. They resided in the Illinois Grove community and northeast of Zearing for 25 years. Twenty four years ago they moved to Zearing where the husband preceded her in death 12 years ago. Since that time she has lived by herself until the last three months when failing health made it necessary for her to be cared for by the members of her family. She is survived by her children, Theron of Ames, Mrs. Nellie Gogerty, Horatio, Mrs. Ruth Steelman and Russell, all of Zearing. Two sons died in infancy. She is also survived by four sisters, Miss Anna Wickham of Nevada, Mrs. Henry Cerka, Mrs. Jennie Phillips and Mrs. Lydia Arrasmith of Zearing and three brothers, John of Eau Gallie, Fla., Cornell of Floyd, Virginia and Charlie of Zearing, 13 grand children and 5 great grandchildren.

She was a loving mother, her interests being for her home and family. She was a charter member of the Illinois Grove church, also the Illinois Grove Aid society and American Legion Auxiliary.

She will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends and neighbors.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Anna Wickham, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wickham from Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Merril Grant of Rhodes; Mr. and Mrs. George Jordan and Mr. and Mrs. Yates Kinyon of Cambridge, Bob Bavluder and Emma Perisho of Union and Mrs. Emma Cardio of Eldora.

Pall bearers were Sam Oaks, Joe Roshe, Harry Meekins, Art Couser, Roy Vinsel and Ralph Norton. Flowers were cared for by Dora Welch, Sadie Dunwoody and Ida Lacey. Songs were sung by a quartet consisting of Mrs. Harry Martin, Mrs. Jerry Hankins, Gilbert Womeldorf and Rev. Kerney, accompanied at the piago by Mrs. Lyle Bailey.
