OBITUARY.
Austin Simmons was born Oct. 8th, 1829 at Decatur, Otsego Co., N. Y. On Oct. 12th, 1851 he was united in marriage with Mary E. Westinghouse, in the town of Parish, Oswego Co., N. Y. One child was born of their union, Mrs. Viletta Bartlett, who with her mother is left to mourn. In the year 1863 with his family he moved to Wisconsin, again moving in 1865 to Story Co., Iowa where he lived until '82 at that time going to Polk Co., this state. He remained there 9 years, returning to Story Co., in '91 where he has since resided in the year 1885 he united with the Church of Christ at Mitchellville, Polk Co., Iowa. On the morning of February 10, 1897, after seven months of suffering the spark of life which had long burned so feebly slowly went out.
The funeral service was conducted by Elder Gilchrist, assisted by Rev. Wilkins in the Church of Christ in Colo in the presence of a large audience of sympathizing friends; after which the body was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery. His brother Wm. and wife of Nashua, Iowa, reached here in time to attend the funeral.
