Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Wanda M. Halverson, age 97, of rural Ames, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Northridge Village in Ames.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Palestine Lutheran Church, rural Huxley. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Palestine Church Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home in Ames and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wanda’s name may be directed to Palestine Lutheran Church or Ballard Creek Assisted Living.

Born on October 17, 1921 in Huxley, Wanda was the daughter of Andrew and Bertha (Tesdell) Fjelland. Wanda’s mother passed away when she was three, and she was raised by her stepmother, Mattie. She graduated from Huxley High School, where she was a proud member of the basketball team. Wanda was united in marriage to Adrian Halverson on January 4, 1942 at Palestine Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and worked at Bourns in Ames and Donnelleys in Nevada throughout the years. Wanda had a special love for her family. She would often comment about her love of family and her love for the Lord. She was a great cook and enjoyed having her family gather for holiday meals. Being a farmwife and 4-H mother was something she was very proud of, assisting around the farm and helping her children with their 4-H projects. Wanda looked forward to attending the State Fair as often as possible. She was an avid reader. Wanda enjoyed following the Iowa State Cyclones, especially their basketball program and would often watch reruns of Cyclone Basketball games. She was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church and the Cambridge American Legion Auxiliary.

Wanda is survived by her sons: Bruce (Sandy) Halverson of Huxley, Jim (Janice) Halverson of Huxley, and Dean (Kerin Overturf) Halverson of Ames; grandchildren: Chad (Carol) Halverson, Tara (Trevor) Ferruggia, Brett (Emily) Halverson, and Amanda (Chris) Richter; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gladys Fjelland; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adrian; sisters: Rayma (Jeffery) Richardson, Orva (Phaene) Hibbs, Bessie Fjelland, and Hortense (John) Griffith; and brothers: Hubert (Betty) Fjelland, Herman (Elberta) Fjelland, and Roger Fjelland.
