Grandma Wyant Died Early Today at Halloway Home

Mrs. A. M. Wyant, 95, or Grandma Wyant, as she was affectionately known to hundreds of Nevada people, died early to day at the home of her grandson, R. L. Halloway, 1026 Fourth street, from infirmities incident to her advanced years.

For the past ten years Mrs. Wyant had spent her winters on the Pacific coast, the majority of them with her daughter, Mrs. Anna Wallsworth at Tacoma, Washington and her summers at the Halloway home in Nevada. She had returned to Nevada from Tacoma on April 1 of this year, making the trip alone and until the past week or so had been able to be up and around the home with the family.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 from the Halloway home on Fourth street, after which the body will be interred in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband, who was buried here May 9, 1913.

Mrs. Wyant had been a woman of wonderful vitality and her mind had remained clear and bright almost to the end.

Mrs. Wyant, whose maiden name was Meriah King, was born near Queenstown, Pennsylvania, March 5, 1842 and there she was married on April 27, 1861 to Samuel Wyant.

The young husband enlisted with Company K 107th Pennsylvania Volunteer November 4, 1861, and served actively until January 3, 1864, when he was discharged. At once re-enlisting for the duration of the war he continued in his country's service until July 14, 1865, when he was finally discharged. Mr. Wyant died at the family home in Nevada May 6, 1913.

Following his discharge from the service the young couple came west, settling first in Illinois, where they made their home until 1895 when they came on to Iowa, settling first on a farm near Kelley. There they lived for some time, after which they located in Ames for a short time and then moved to Nevada in 1902 and this was their home until the death of Mr. Wyant in 1913. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Wyant had made her home the most of the time with either her daughter, Mrs. Wallsworth or with the grandson, R. L. Halloway of Nevada.

She had been a member of the Church of Christ since the years of her residence in Illinois. She was also an active member of Jason D. Ferguson post W. R. C. of Nevada and of the G. A. R. ladies in Washington.

She is survived by her one daughter, Mrs. Anna Wallsworth of Tacoma, Washington. Another daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Arkebaur, died in Illinois about twenty years ago.

she also leaves her grandson, R. L. Halloway with whom she had made her home when in Nevada for the past many years. A granddaughter, Mrs. Nina Johnson lives in Los Angeles and she had visited there at various times. Other grandchildren are Lyle and Velda Wallsworth of Tacoma and three children of the daughter who died in Illinois.

Dale and Carrol Halloway of Nevada are great grandchildren and little Glenda Fay, daughter of Dale, is a great great granddaughter.

The great grandson, Dale Halloway, who with his wife and daughter has spent the past few months in Tacoma, Washington, arrived in Nevada at 5 a. m. today, a few hours after the passing of Mrs. Wyant.

Mrs. Wyant was a woman of splendid characteristics. Firm in her convictions yet, she always looked upon the better side of life; always was kind and charitable to members of her family and her friends and was woman mush admired by those who were favored with her acquaintance.

Shortly after her last arrival here from Tacoma, she had told friends that she thought she had doubtless made her final trip to the Pacific coast and that she would end her days in the home of her grandson and his wife. This prophecy proved true and she was tenderly cared for during her final days by Mrs. Halloway and other members of the family.
