AGED PIONEER DIED AT ROLAND

MRS. HACTOR WICKS PASSED AWAY AT SUNDOWN OF CHRISTMAS DAY

Roland, Dec. 27--Mrs. Hactor Wicks, 56, for over half a century a resident of this neighborhood, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Christianson, northwest of Roland Sunday evening at 6:00, following a stroke of apoplexy.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon. There will be a prayer service at the home at 1:30, followed by the funeral at Bergen Lutheran church at 2:00, with her pastor Rev. Sumstadt in charge, with interment in the local cemetery.

The deceased, a native of Norway, whose maiden name was Wicks, was married there to Hactor Wicks and came to America in 1870. They settled first in Illinois, here they lived for five years, after which they came to Story county and settled on the farm northwest of here where they lived for forty years, retiring and moving into Roland in 1916. The husband died about 8 years ago and since suffering stroke about three months ago the aged woman had made her home with the daughter.

She leaves six daughters and two sons, three sisters and three brothers.

The daughters are Mrs. Julia Christianson, Mrs. Ben Borwick, Mrs. Andrew H. Twedt and Mrs. Eli Jacobson all of the Roland neighborhood, Mrs. John Waage of Brookings, S. D., and Mrs. Garfield Halvorson of Belmond; the son Tom H. and Theodore Wicks of near Roland.

The sisters are Mrs. Ole Wicks of Roland, Mrs. Theodore Carpenter of near Randall and one sister in Norway, while the brothers are Tom Wicks of Story City, George Wicks of Elmore, Minn., and Thomas Wicks of Clarion.
