PIONEER ZEARING WOMAN DIED TODAY

MRS. GORDON WOOD PASSED AWAY; FUNERAL ON THURSDAY

Zearing, Dec. 27--Rachel Belden-Wood, 85, died at her home here at 5:40 a. m. today, after an illness of three weeks due to complications incident to her advanced years. The deceased was th widow of the late Gordon Wood, Civil War veteran and mother of Mrs. James Chance and John E. Wood of this place.

The deceased whose name was Rachel Belden, was a native of New York state, where she was born October 18, 1847. She came with her people to Illinois when a small girl and was married in 1870 to Gordon Wood.

They cane out to Iowa in 1874, settling first near Zearing. Later they moved to Nevada and from the county seat moved over to State Center where the husband died September 13, 1902.

Two years later Mrs. Wood came back to Zearing and this had been her home since. She had long been a member of the Church of Christ. Besides the two living children, two son George and Elmer were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wood, but died in infancy.

The body of the deceased will lay in state at the Brouhard funeral home until Wednesday evening.

The funeral will be held at her home Thursday afternoon at 2:00, after which the body will be taken to State Center where it will be laid to rest by the side of the husband.
