Obituary from Memorial Services of Iowa, Ankeny, Polk County, Iowa:

Lloyd Jerald "Jerry" Ballantyne, 88, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Funeral services will be 4:00 pm, Thursday, June 13th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley with burial following at Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.

Jerry was born November 8, 1930 in rural Moorhead Iowa to Lloyd and Doris (Green) Ballantyne. He graduated from Napier High School in 1949 and went on to attend Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (Iowa State University) before serving in the Air Force.

After serving in the Air Force, he returned to farm the family farm outside of Ames.

Jerry married Bonnie Ballard September 11, 1955 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley.
Jerry enjoyed square dancing with the Nevada Whirlers, camping, traveling, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of over 63 years; one son, David (Jana) Ballantyne of Nevada; two daughters, Janice Ballantyne of Olathe, Kansas and Leigh Benson of Ames; two granddaughters, Alisha Benson of Ames and Brittany Ballantyne of Ankeny; and one sister, Marilyn Nervig of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Jeffrey.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Kelley First Responders/Westory Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
