From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Francis Darwin Miller, 84, of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 7 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 8 also at the funeral home with military honors provided by the William F. Ball Legion Post #48 and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Burial will be at a later date at Murphy Cemetery near Nevada.

Francis was born December 10, 1934, in Boone the son of Orville and Amanda (Williamson) Miller. He graduated from Boone High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955, serving until 1975. Francis was united in marriage to Beverly Jones Bishop on June 14, 1958, in Sequin, Texas. He had worked as a truck driver and in maintenance at the post office in Ankeny.

Francis was a member of the American Legion Post #48 and the VFW in Nevada. He could often be found at the legion or at Snacktime catching up with friends. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, fishing and traveling. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Francis is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Ernest) Hodge of Lubbock, TX; his son, Ken Miller of Polk City; his son, Scott Miller; his brothers: Arnold (Shirley) Miller of Bellevue, NE and Dan (Linda) Miller of Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren: Christi (Brian) Minear, Michael (Amanda) Schoppe, Kacey Miller and John Miller; and his great-grandchildren: Cameron Haddock and Jonathan Minear. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughters: Carla and Donna Miller; his sister, Marge Toot; and his brother, Carroll Miller.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Story County Animal Shelter or the American Legion Scholarship Fund.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
