Well Known Woman Was Laid to Rest

Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, Sept. 17--Funeral services for Mrs. E W. Sanders were held Friday afternoon at the Congregational church conducted by Rev. J. P. Himmel who spoke of this beautiful life of service in the home, the church and the community. The space surrounding the pulpit was filled with beautiful floral offerings.

Eva Belle Spencer, was born near Fairbury, Ill., April 20, 1869. She came to Iowa with her parents when she was 3 years of age, settled on a farm north of Nevada and then later on a farm near McCallsburg. Here she united in marriage to Eden W. Sanders March 15, 1888. They moved to a farm near Pleasant Grove where withe the exception of five years in Dickinson county, has been their home. To this union four sons were born: Claude* died in infancy. Fourteen years ago her mother passed away leaving her to care for her aged father. When her granddaughter, Alberta, was left motherless on the day of her birth it was she who took her to her arms and cared for her these eight years.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, three sons, Floyd of Gilbert, Claude of Graettinger and Ernest at home and three grandchildren, Wilma, Robert and Alberta, her aged father David Spencer, a brother Arthur of Unity, Wisc., and a sister Mrs. C. a. Randall of Hollandale, Minn., besides a host of relatives.

People from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adam Ruxton, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gunder, Mrs. Jake Wilson and sons of Zearing; Mrs. C. Ellison, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Boyes and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Haden of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. John Hill and Mrs. Charlie Canady of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Gueal, Mr. and Mrs. C. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. John Wakefield and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Funder of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Harrison and Mrs. Wm. Morgan of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Reid of McCallsburg; Mrs. E. Fenn of Roland; Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Clark of Monticello; Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Sanders and Mrs. Laura Cox of Osheydan; Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Spender and children of Unity, Wisc.; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Randall and children of Hollandale, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Dolson of Graettinger.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The infant son who died was Clarence Walter Sanders born 1 February 1893 and died 17 February 1893 in Story County, Iowa, not Claude as stated. Claude Leroy Sanders was born 29 April 1890 and died in 1856 in Graettinger, Palo Alto County, Iowa.
