LIGHTFOOT FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY

HAD SERVED AS TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR AND CLERK FOR PAST 25 YEARS

Zearing, Nov. 19--Funeral services for Harry Lightfoot, who died at his home here Tuesday evening was held Thursday afternoon was in the Zearing cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. Trimble and Rev. Aurand, while interment was in charge of the Masonic order. The pall bearers were from among the Masons.

Harry Williams Lightfoot was born January 30, 1870 at Kaneville, Illinois, and died November 16th, 1926 at Zearing, Iowa age 56 years, 9 months and 16 days, the cause being pneumonia. His death was great shock as it came suddenly after but a short illness.

When Harry was 12 years old he moved from Illinois to Story county with his parents and lived on a farm four miles southwest of town until about 30 years ago when they move to Zearing. He attended college at Cedar Falls one year, worked at the carpenter trade, was a farmer, and for a time was in the lumber business in Fernald. He also spent one year at the carpenter trade in the Dakotas.

Harry Lightfoot was well known throughout the county. For the past 25 years he has been assesseor and township clerk. The county officers gave tribute to his good work, saying that they always found his books in a neat form, well kept and always correct.

Mr. Lightfoot has been connected with the Masonic, Odd Fellow and Easter Star lodges for many years. He served for some time as an officer in the Masonic and Eastern Star organizations.

He had a physical handicap but was a good worker in spite of it. He took good care of his mother and the place where he resided.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Mrs. Nancy Lightfoot, two sisters, Mrs. Louise Harris of Los Angeles, Mrs. Jessie Hankins of Marshalltown, one brother Ray Lightfoot of Zearing. Also a nephew Hugh O'Neil of Des Moines, two nieces, Mrs. Ruby Rout of Los Angeles, and Helen Lightfoot of Zearing. Also two uncles and four aunts and a host of friends who will miss him.
