OBITUARY OF EDW. COLEMAN

Was 92 Years of Age and Half Century in County.

Colo, Oct. 22.--Edward Coleman, 92, whose recent death at his home in this city, removed another of those who have lived in the community for over half a century, was one of the real pioneers of this part of the county and his death is mourned with sincere regret.

Edward Coleman was born Sept. 28, 1832, near Gort, Galway Co., Ireland. When about 20 years of age, he with his brother James sailed for America. They endured many hardships on board and the brother died.

Edward landed in Philadelphia without money but found friends who helped him find work on a farm. On October 15, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Egan at Brandywine, Penn.

After a couple of years he with his wife and son James came to Illinois and settled on a farm near Rochelle. There five daughters were born and in 1872 he, with his family, came to Iowa, buying a farm southeast of Colo which continued to be their home until 1897 when they came to Colo where he since resided.

Mrs. Coleman was called by death on Oct. 20, 1897. Mary, the eldest daughter, Feb. 13, 1899 and Ella on July 9, 1901.

Mr. Coleman, though far past the allotted years of ban, retained his mental faculties to the very last, enjoyed the society of people, was a good neighbor, and a kind friend. His death occurred at the family home October 14, 1924, at the advanced age of 92 years and 16 days.

He leaves to mourn their loss, one son, James, of New Hampton, Ia., and three daughters, Kathryn, and Mrs. Elizabeth Cannon of Colo and Mrs. J. A. Hamm of Fairbury, Nebr., eleven grand children, eight great grand children and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in Colo, Thursday at ten A. M. Requiem High Mass was read by Father Nichols. Interment was made in Nevada in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Those present at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. James Coleman and son Frank of New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hamm of Fairbury, Nebr.; John Coleman of Milwaukee; A. M. Dremelow of Fredricksburg, Ia.; Mart Coleman and Mrs. D. F. Sullivan of Rochelle, Ill.; Kathryn Coleman of Nevada; Will Hamm, Fairbury, Nebr.; Thomas Hayes and daughter Margaret of Traer, Ia.; Mrs. B. F. Foley and daughter, Alice, of Madella, Minn. an Mrs. A. V. Granes of Des Moines.
