OBITUARY OF MRS. BURKHART

Was Pioneer Resident of the County Age 84 Years.

Mrs. A. M. Burkhart, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Banks at Alamo, Texas, August 30, an whose body was laid to rest in the mausoleum at Zearing a few days later, by the side of her husband, the late John C. Burkhart, who died some years ago, was one of the pioneers of the county.

The funeral services were held from the Church of Christ in Zearing of which she had been a long time member September 3, the services being conducted by Rev. H. E. Trimble, pastor of that church, assisted by Rev. A. V. Hart of the Christian church of Nevada.

The following obituary was prepared and read by the pastor:

"Anna Mary Albaugh, daughter of Anna and Daniel Albaugh, was born in Hollidaysburg, Penn., May 21, 1840 and departed this life August 30, 1924 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Banks, at Alamo, Texas at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 9 days.

"Mrs. Burkhart came to Iowa in the early pioneer days, the family settling first in Linn county in 1846, where she was united in marriage in 1858 to J. C. Burkhart. To this union eight children were born, Charles A. Burkhart, deceased; Jessie M. Smith, Ames, Iowa; Hubert E. Burkhart, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Grace Farber, Dexter, Minn.; and Mrs. A. W. Banks, Alamo, Texas, three dying in infancy.

"She also leaves four brothers and four sisters. The brothers are Thomas and Frank Albaugh of Nevada, William Albaugh of Cedar Rapids, and David Albaugh of Davenport. The sisters are Mrs. Sadie Miller of Kenwood, Mrs. J. B. Holsinger of Marion, Mrs. John Stamy of Cedar Rapids, Ia.

"She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

"Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart moved to Story county in 1867 and to Zearing in 1882, where they resided until the death of husband. From that time she has made her home in Nevada. Mrs. Burkhart had a large part in the early life of Story county and Zearing. She shared in the real pioneer life in the state of Iowa. She gave of her influence, means and labor to build here in the state and county Christian civilization, being a devout Christian woman and interested in every movement to make the homes and community better. She had a large part in organizing the Christian church of Zearing, and was charter member of this church. While in late years she has not been able to attend its services, yet she did not forget the church of her work here only a few months ago, sending a substantial check to apply where it was most needed.

"We mourn because we have lost such a splendid christian character and friend, but the sorrow is lightened when we know that her life his been a blessing and benediction to all who knew her.

"As we think of her passing these lines come to us:

"Out of the strain of the doing,
Into the peace of the done;
Out of the thirst of pursuing,
Into the rapture of won;
Out of the gray mist into brightness,
Out of pale dust into dawn--
Out of all wrong into rightness
We from these fields shall be gone.
'Nay' say the saints, 'Not gone, come, I to Eternity's Heavenly Home'"
