DEATH OF L. M. KELLEY.

Body Taken to Battle Creek For Interment.

Ames, Jan. 23--L. M. Kelley, 62 years old long time resident of Ames and Story county died suddenly on Friday, Jan. 18. He had been in poor health for several years but his death came as a shock to his family who had not considered his condition as immediately dangerous.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in charge of the Masonic Order represented by Worshipful Master Chas. Kinderman. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. L. A. Brandford of the Collegiat M. E. church and O. H. Cessman chaplain of Iowa State college. Two favorite musical selections of the deceased were sung by Mrs. A. W. Turner and Mrs. H. H. Sunderlin of Ames. Tuesday the body was taken to Battle Creek, Iowa for interment in Mount Hope cemetery.

L. Manley Kelley was born in Warren county, Pennsylvania, Dec. 4, 1861 son of Elizabeth Soule Kelley and John Byron Kelley a veteran of the Civil war. He came to Iowa when a boy in 1877 making his home with H. D. Sherman first Dairy Commissioner of Iowa and during the next few years engaging in the dairy business operating different creameries owned by the Diamond Creamery company. He was married Jan. 1881 to Lila M. Crawford of Monticello, Iowa, to whom were born three children, Jessie M. of Ames, who holds a position with Iowa State college; M. A. Raymond, Ag Engineer for U. S. Department of Agriculture and James Byron, Prof. of Ag Engineering at University of Kentucky.

He came to Story county 28 years ago residing first at Colo and later at Ames. He was employed for ten years by Iowa State college in the Ag Engineering department resigning three years ago on account of ill health. He was a member of Arcadia Lodge No. 249 A. F. and A. M. at Ames. The Mystic Workers of the World and held long membership in the Methodist church, being one of the first trustees of the Collegiate Methodist church at Ames.
