Last Rites at Collins Tuesday For Mrs. McQuiston

Collins, Nov. 25--Funeral services for Rose Ann McQuiston, 84, widow of the late Chas. L. McQuiston, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Noah Hyatt, east of Collins, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the local Methodist church, with her pastor, the Rev. Duane Manning, in charge, assisted by the Rev. George Adkins of the Church of Christ.

Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Miss Calla Wood, Mrs. L. D. Holland, Mrs. L. M. Hall and Mrs. Ronald Good, with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano.

The songs were "In the Garden", "The Lord is My Sheperd", and "The Old Rugged Cross". The many lovely flowers were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Sam Hyatt.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Collins by the side of her husband who passed away four years ago. The pall bearers were Sam Hyatt, Dan Wilson, E. S. Patton.

The following brief life history was read at the services by the pastor:

Rose Ann Holmes, daughter of Henry and Mary Holmes, was born Oct. 19, 1860, at Jacksonville, Ill., and passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Maude Hyatt, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 19, at the age of eighty four years and one month.

She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of nine and lived in and near Collins the remaindr of her life.

She was united in marriage to Charles Leonard McQuiston at her home near Collins on Feb. 11, 1883. To this union three children were born, namely, Effie, Maude and Oran.

She attended the Methodist church at Peoria as a girl and united with the Methodist church at Collins on moving nearer this community. She retained this membership until the time of her death and gave faithfully of her time and talents as long as her health permitted.

She was one of a family of nine children. David, Tom and Sarah Ann preceded her in death, as did her husband who passed away, June 3, 1940.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Scott Marsh and Mrs. Noah Hyatt, and her son, Oran McQuiston, an only grandchild, Harold McQuiston, all of Collins; four brothers, John of Des Moines, Will, George and Walter of Collins; one sister, Mrs. Flora Warrell of Maxwell, and a number of nieces and nephews besides a host of friends.
