Last Rites For Mrs. Eva Harper Held on Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Harper who died at her home in Nevada Thursday morning, were conducted at the Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada Sunday afternoon with Rev. Hugh C. Guy, officiating. Miss Virginia Bierschwal sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus" with Mrs. Norman C. Dobson accompanist.

The pall bearers were C. D. Knight, Marlie Lobaugh, Dick McConnell, Earl G. Slemons, A. E. Reedholm and Carl Holder.

Burial was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.

Obituary Mrs. Eva Harper

Eva Sherman, daughter of Mr. William and Martha Sherman, was born at Aurora, Ill., September 29, 1861, and passed away at her home 1122 First St., in Nevada, Iowa at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 1948, being 87 years and one day old. When a small child her mother passed away. Then her father and the two children came to Iowa in a covered wagon. After her father's death, she went back to Illinois to live with an uncle and aunt, Mr. John and Susan Hill, who lived in the neighborhood of Mendota, Ill. She grew to womanhood there. At the age of 20 she married to Charles Hitchcock. To this union one son, William, was born and a daughter, who died in infancy. Mr. Hitchcock and family came to Iowa and lived in the neighborhood of Cambridge and White Oak school. Mr. Hitchcock died in 1914. In 1921 she was married to Mr. John W. Harper and they lived for some time in the vicinity of Pleasant Grove. Her son, William, passed away in 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Harper moved to Nevada in 1930, and she had made her home here for the past 18 years. Mr. Harper passed away about 7 years ago.

The last 5 years Mr. Jim Epperly has faithfully cared for her as if she were his own mother.

Mrs. Harper's life interests have centered around her home. She was never much of a person to mix a great deal in society, through she loved to have folks drop in to visit. In that way she made lots of friends and loved to see you come in for a visit. She will be missed among her relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn her departure one nephew, Leon Sherman, Elkhart, Iowa, and one niece, Mrs. Edith Welshons, Des Moines, Iowa. Other distant relatives and friends, her husband's son, Willie, infant daughter, a half sister, Lew, and one brother, Will, have preceded her in death. She suffered a stroke about four weeks ago and gradually grew weaker and quietly closed her eyes last Thursday morning to be with her Maker.
