Funeral Services for J. W. Orr Held at St. Mary's Church

Colo, Nov. 22--Funeral services for J. W. Orr who passed away at his home south of Colo early Thursday morning, Nov. 13, following a heart attack were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Mary's church, Colo, with Rev. Father James Mahoney officiating. Burial was in the St. James cemetery at Colo.

Pallbearers were Tom Jennett, Will Jennett, Lloyd Cummings, P. D. Fitzgerald, C. D. Knight and W. A. Kisling. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Lloyd Cummings, Mrs. Chester Myers an Mrs. Joe Croker.

Hymns were sung by Mrs. Roger Hopikins and her daughter, Veva Jeannette and a Colo by Harry Bannon of Iowa city. Mrs. Frances O'Donnell accompanied them at the organ.

Jesse Wiley Orr, son of Harry and Katherine Orr, was born near Champaign, Ill., Dec. 13, 1871, and passed away at his home near Colo, Nov. 13, 1941, at the age of 69 years and 11 months. When he was a small boy he went by covered wagon with his parents from Champaign, Ill., to Kansas, where they located on a farm a few miles northwest of the city of Olathe, Kan.

It was there that both of his parents passed away when he was just 13 years old. Following his parents death he went to live with his oldest brother, Grant Orr, at Chicago, Ill., where he attended school and later attended college at Valsparso, Ind.

"Wiley" as he was know to all his friends, came to Colo early in the year 1896 and with the exception of three years when the family lived in Cantril, Ia., he has lived for the past 45 year in the New Albany township of Story county, where he had many, many friends. As one friend said, "He will be greatly missed by everyone whoever knew him, for every time he made an acquaintance he made a friend." When Wiley came to Colo in 1896, he located on a farm six miles southeast of Colo, and continued in the occupation of farming until his death.

On Feb. 16, 1898, he was united in marriage to Agnes Donnelly. To this union five children were born John H. Orr of Colo, Grant Orr of Colo, Mary Orr McCoy of Colo, Anna Orr Rose, now living at Brookfield, Ill., and Margaret Orr Templeton, now living at Sheffield, Ia.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Agnes Orr, the above mentioned children, four grandchildren, James Orr McCoy of Colo, Martha Agnes and Roy Wiley Rose of Brookfield, Ill., and Mary Jo Templeton of Sheffield, one brother, Dr. Clark Orr of Miami, Fla., several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were his niece, Mrs. A. M. Weaver and husband of Kansas City, o., his niece, Mrs. G. W. Payton and husband of Olathe, Kan., Mrs. Alice Brink and son Ralph of Nichols, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Rose and children of Brookfield, Ill., Mrs. Ella Carmody and John Shaugnessy of Freeport, Ill., the Misses Ella and Anna Malone of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Templeton and daughter of Sheffield, W. A. Kisling and W. C. Creath of Cantril, Ia., Fred and Margaret Cannon and Harry Bannon of Iowa City, Dan and Minnie Quirk, Mrs. Harry Ford, Jack Wyant, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Shaw of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Blink and daughter Helen of Haverhill, Ia., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Blink of Waterloo, and a large number of relatives and friends from nearby towns.
