Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Amos Jones Sr.

Colo, July 15--Funeral services for Amos Jones Sr., who passed away Wednesday evening, July 7, at his home in Colo, were held at the Colo Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with interment in Colo cemetery by the side of his wife.

He was a prominent citizen and life long resident of Colo. Rev. Alfred Schneck officiated, bringing a message of comfort and consolation to the sorrowing relatives and friends. Music was furnished by Mrs. Curtis Marsh with Mrs. Robert McIntosh presiding at the piano. The songs were "Beyond the Sunset," "Going Down the Valley," and "Rock of Ages.

The many floral offerings were in charge of Mrs Mae Perry, Mrs. Hattie Binder and Mrs. Jessie Brouhard.

The casket bearers were his grandsons, Herbert, Charles, Leo and Everett Jones, Harold and Ray Weir.

Obituary

Amos Peter Jones, son of Thomas and Phoebe Jones, was born October 2, 1863 in Illinois and passed away at his home in Colo, July 7, 1948, aged 84 years, 9 months and 5 days.

He had five sisters and three brothers. His father, mother and four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

He came to Colo, when a young man, where he was later united in marriage to Alice May McCartney, January 28, 1886. They went immediately to Sycamore, Illinois where they live two years. They came back to Colo an settled on a farm, where he spent the remainder of his life with the exception of one year in Missouri and three years in Floyd county, Iowa. To this union were born ten children, Fred, John, Frank, Amos Jr. and Mrs. Nellie Weir of Colo, Harry of Nevada, Mrs. Carrie martin of Rockwell, Mrs. Mabel Smith of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Blanch Samson of Story City, and Alice Fischer of Boone.

He united with the Methodist church in 1911, continuing in that faith until his death.

He was a king and loving husband and father, happiest when his family was with him, always willing to held neighbors and friends in sickness and need. He always engaged in farming until six years ago, when he retired to his present home, where he had lived twenty-six years. His son John, wife and family, had lived with him since January of 1948, caring for him through his last illness. He was bed fast only two weeks.

His wife passed away eleven months ago. One daughter, Mabel Smith of Chicago, Illinois, and one son Frank of Colo passed away three years ago.

He leaves to mourn his loss four sons, four daughters, thirty-two grand children, one brother Charles Jones of Kirkland, Illinois, one sister Mrs. Cora Thurby* of Belvidere, Illinois, several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Those who attended the services from out of town were from Nevada, Rockwell, Story City, Boone, Maxwell, Des Moines, Rockford, Marshalltown, Van Cleve, Sexton, Iowa City, Mason City, Bondurant and Ames, and Kirkland, Ill.
