Last Rites Held Sunday Afternoon for Mrs. Amos Jones, Sr.

Colo, Aug. 14--Funeral services for Mrs. Amos Jones, Sr., were held at the Colo Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with interment in Colo cemetery. Rev. Alfred Schneck officiated. He brought a message of comfort and consolation to the sorrowing relatives and friends. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lois Yeager and Mrs. Isabelle Bamford with Mrs. Lois Dickinson presiding at the piano. The songs were "The Old Rugged Cross," "This Is My Task" and "Saved By Grace."

The many floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Mae Perry, Mrs. Anna Marquiss and Mrs. Ina Allen; Mrs. Marquiss and Mrs. Allen having cared for Mrs. Jones in her last illness.

The casket bearers were her grandsons, Herbert, Everett, Leo and Charles Jones, Harold and Ray Weir.

Obituary

Alice May Jones, daughter of John and Naomi McCartney, was born on a farm near Colo, Dec. 14, 1863 and passed away at her home in Colo, Aug. 8, 1947, aged 83 years, 7 months, and 24 days.

She had five sisters and two brothers. Her father, mother, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage to Amos Jones of Sycamore, Ill., Jan. 28, 1886. To this union were born ten children. Two children Mrs. Mable Smith of Chicago and Frank of Colo, preceded her in death, Fred, John, Amos Jr., and Mrs. Nellie Weir of Colo; Harry of Nevada; Mrs. Carrie Martin of Rockwell; Mrs. Blanche Samson of Story City and Mrs. Alice Fischer of Boone.

She united with the Methodist church in Floyd county in 1911 and continued in that faith until death, with the exception of six years, her entire life was spent in the community.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always ready to help in sickness or need, until her eyesight failed several years ago.

She leaves to mourn her loss her aged husband, four sons, four daughters, thirty grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren, one brother, George McCartney, of Charles City, two sisters, Laura McCartney of Colo; and Mrs. Maude Carpenter of Des Moines; eight nephews and six nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Those who attended the services were: Harry Jones of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. John Martin of Rockwell; Mrs. Charles Samson of Story City; Mr. and Mrs C. C. Fischer of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Jones, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Orville Weir, all of Colo; Mr. Oscar Smith of Chicago, Ill.

Grandchildren are: Mr. and Mrs. John Calhoun of Maxwell; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jones of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin of Rockford, Ruth Martin of Rockwell; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stevenson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weir, Miss Lillian Samson of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Jones of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Belhing, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Browing and Mr. Carl Smith of Boone, Edna and Virginia Smith of Chicago, Glen and Marie Samson of Story City, Herbert Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jones and Jean Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jay, Ray and Vern Weir, all of Colo.

Other relatives from out of town were Mrs. Alva Carpenter, Mrs. Terrance Bennett and son, Larry of Des Moines, Miss Laura McCartney of Colo, and Mr. and Mrs. Russell McCartney of Boone.

Friends from out of town Mr. and Mrs. Will Havington and son, Kenneth of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. George Belhing of Boone, Mrs. Susie Epperly of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Allen of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Webb of Maxwell; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Rice and daughter of Marshalltown and Mrs. Fred Chitty of Nevada.
