Both Merle and his wife were stricken with the infection within a period of two days. They were taken to the Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines, where at the present time Mrs. Moser is making satisfactory improvements.

When Merle was about 12 he moved with his parents to a farm near Gilbert, where they lived for about two years. Following this, located on a farm north of Fernald, where he grew to manhood.
