Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Steven Riker
May 17, 1974 - April 23, 2019

Steve Riker, 44, of Ames passed away April 23, 2019 with his family close by. Visitation will be Thursday April 25, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Stonebrook Community Church, 3611 Eisenhower Ave. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Stonebrook Community Church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Steve Riker was born in Kansas, May 17, 1974, and was adopted by Lowell and Linda Riker of Abilene, Kansas, on August 10, 1976.

He went to elementary school in Kansas, but he moved to Red Wing, Minnesota, when he was 11 years old. He lived there until he left to go to Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.

Steve married Becky Anderson in 1995, moved to Ames, Iowa, and had five children. They moved back to Minnesota in 2002 but returned to Ames in 2008.

Steve worked as a builder, a technical writer, and a plant controller.

He loved Jesus and his family. He also enjoyed political debates, building theater sets, working on cars with his boys, watching his girls play basketball, and reading books to his grandson.

Steve could fix anything – whether it was electronics, appliances, or vehicles, though he always said he wouldn’t be able to do half of it without Youtube. He could also build whatever he set his mind to, and he loved doing that with his wife, kids, and friends.

In the last week of his life, Steve received outpourings of love from friends, family, and nursing staff. He spoke often of his gratitude for that, his longing to be with Jesus, and of how proud he was of all his children, including daughter-in-law, Jill, for the strong and faithful men and women they were becoming.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; his children, Oliver, Isaiah (Jill), Clae, Sophia, and Mercy; his grandson, Micah; his parents; his sister, Karen (Josh); eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in law; his parents-in-law, John and Joan Anderson; 28 nieces and nephews; and many beloved cousins and aunts and uncles.

We will miss his laugh, his servant heart, his opinion on every subject, and his hugs.

James 1:2-4: Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
