Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Doris Jean Childers, 92, of Story City died April 19, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday April 24 at 11:00 am at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will be in the Roland Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.

Doris was born on December 14, 1926 in Hamilton county, Iowa to Gaylord T. and Cora A. (Thompson) Ness. She married Harold E. Childers on August 13, 1946. He died August 20, 2013. Doris worked at Donnelly’s in Nevada for 35 years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Roland American Legion Aux. Doris enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, baking and golfing with Harold, where they won many trophies. Spending time and being with her family was her greatest joy.

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Carol Patterson and Diane Swenson both of Story City and Louise (Rodney) Ahrens of Ames; six grandchildren, Tracey (David) Dennis, Christopher (Michelle) Rutter, Shanon Green, Wendy Whitaker, Matt (Kelly) Ahrens, and Justin (Kelsey) Ahrens; 15 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; a son-on-law, Paul Swenson; two sisters, Gladys Wagner and Sharon Ness and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Larry Ness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
