Funeral Services At Ames Today For James H. Gilchrist

Ames, May 27--Funeral rites were held at the Adams Funeral chapel here this afternoon for James H. Gilchrist, 56, native of this community, a prominent business man, who passed away early Tuesday morning at his Douglas avenue home. Death was due to heart trouble and other complications, from which he had been suffering from some time.

The services was in charge of Rev. A. R. McLaughlin of the Congregational church with a Masonic service following.

Born here February 9, 1886, a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gilchrist, he attended and graduated from the local schools, was married to Miss Blanche Allen for Nevada and has been engaged in the coal and feed company for a number of years. He was employed by the old B. A. Lockwood Grain and Coal company before owning and operating the Gilchrist Coal and Feed Company.

Mr. Gilchrist was a member of the Masons, consistory and commandery, the Za-Ga-Zig shrine at Des Moiens, and the I. O. O. F. lodge. He was charter member and past president of Mono clan and past worthy patron of Laura chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Gilchrist was a member of the city council at the time the city hall was built.

He was united in marriage to Blanche Allen, Sept. 7, 1910, at Marion, Ia.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Rober and Rex of Ames; Staff Sgt. Allen Gilchrist of Philadelphia, Pa., three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Kunel and Mes. Mary Spurrier of Ames and Jean Gilchrist of Lincoln, Nebr.; a brother, David Gilchrist of Olivia, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret McElroy of Milford and four grandchildren.
