Last Rites For Mary Tichenor, 96 Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Tichenor were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Donald M. Gruber officiating.

Fred McLain sang two songs, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Rock of Ages" accompanied by Mrs. Norman Dobson at the organ.

The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Walt Bamford and Mrs. Mae Perry.

The casket bearers were E. B. Ayres, George Backous, Walt Bamford, Ross King, Ervin Williams and Verle Williams.

Burial was made in the Pleasant Run cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Mary Tichenor, daughter of Thomas and Harriet Whitaker, died at the winter home of her son George on Feb. 11, 1958 at Tucson, Ariz. at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 22 days.

She was born Oct. 21, 1861 on the old Whitaker homestead and spent her entire life in Story county with the exception of her winters in Arizona.

She was married Mar. 17, 1886 to Carlton W. Tichenor who preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1888 and to this union one son, George, was born.

Mary was a member of the E. U. B. church since childhood, belonging to the Summit church first, then transferring her membership to Colo, where she served for 35 years as treasurer of the W. M. S. She was always active in the Ladies Aid until her health prevented her from doing so. She had enjoyed good health until the past two months when she suffered a heart attack.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Tichenor, one grandson, Carlton and two great grandchildren, Gary and Dennis Tichenor. One sister, Mrs. Maggie Coxworth of Guckeen, Minn.

Many of her friends and relatives preceded her in death, among them were three sisters and two brothers. But there remain yet a number of other relatives who are left to mourn her passing.
