Funeral Services Held at Maxwell for Late Grapho Lane

Maxwell, Jan. 13--Funeral services for Grapho Lane, 78, died at 11:00 o'clock Friday night at his home here were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Cooper's Funeral Chapel.

While Mr. Lane had been in poor health the past 5 years, he had only been confined to his bed about two weeks. The rites were in charge of the Rev. R. G. W. Collins, pastor of the local Church of Christ. Mrs. Harold Mohler and Mrs. C. I. Kirk sang, "In the Garden," and "Does Jesus Care." with Mrs. Ned Pearson at the organ. The pall-bearers were nephews of the deceased, John and Chester Soutter, Harold and Joe Lasell, Elworth and Hugh Neffenegger.

The following obituary was read by the minister during the service.

"Grapho Lane was born in Ontario, Canada on August 10, 1864 and passed away Jan. 8, 1943 at the age of 78 years. His parents were Bradford and Nannie Lane.

"The family moved to Iowa in 1865 and in 1867 they moved onto a farm south of Maxwell.

"Mr. Lane was married to Mary La Sasell, Feb. 2, 1896 after which they moved on the farm. They remained on the farm until eight years ago when they moved to Maxwell.

"To this union eight children were born, three preceded him in death--Erma, Zeno, and Vernon. Surviving are his wife, Mary, and five children--Mrs. Zelda Rittgers of Des Moies; Mrs. Ena Sarsfield of Maxwell, and Doris at home. Also two granddaughters, Betty Lee Sarsfield and Sandra Lee Lane.

The flowers were very beautiful and profuse. Interment was in the family lot in the Pine Hill cemetery near Des Moines. Attending the rites from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lasell, Mr. and Mrs. H. Neffeneggar, Mrs. Blanche Douglas, Mrs. Doris Price, Mrs. Dorothy Walton, Mrs. Mildred McCauley, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Soutter, Mrs. Martin Collins, Mitchellville; H. E. Lasell, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Foss McCauley, Cambridge and possibly others.
