Mrs. Armstrong Died Friday Night After Brief Illness

Mrs. Mae Armstrong, 63, widow of the late Chas. E. Armstrong passed away Friday evening at -- p.m. at her home 117 J Avenue, having been confined to her bed less than a week. Death was due to nerve exhaustion.

Definite funeral arrangements are awaiting arrival of the son, Lt. Tom Bailey, who is expected here from Los Angeles, Calif.

While Mrs. Armstrong had been in noticeably failing health for a number of months she had been able to care for her husband during his last illness which confined him to his bed for about four weeks and she had ministered to his care over a period of several months when he was in declining health.

After the death of Mr. Armstrong on Armistice Day morning, Nov. 11, just three weeks ago today, Mrs. Armstrong had been able to look after the necessary matters of business and had seemed to be regaining her strength, somewhat, when she suffered a nervous collapse last Sunday. She had been under the constant care of physician the past week.

Since the death of Mr. Armstrong, Mrs. Belle Henrehan long time friend, had been making her home with Mrs. Armstrong and had been in charge of her home during this last illness.

Mrs. Armstrong had bee a resident of Nevada nearly 30 years. She was married here on April 14, 1917 to Chas. E. Armstrong, Editor of the Nevada Journal on which paper she was employed as reporter. She had been married twice before coming to Nevada and leaves one son, Lt. Tom Bailey, who has been with the Los Angeles, Calif. police force for the past twenty years.

Mrs. Armstrong was a woman devoted to her home and to her husband and son Tom. The latter attended the Nevada schools as a boy, graduating with the class of 1919.

Mrs. Armstrong was also very community minded and at the time of the her death was president of the Nevada Patriotic Council, a member of the Nevada Cemetery Board, president of the Women's Relief Corps, a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, member of the Music division of the Nevada Women's club, and during the time the chapter was active was a member of the Pythian Sisters' organization of which she was a Past Chief.

She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and gave freely of her time and talents to --d in its work. Gifted with a great talent for music she had served for many years as pipe-organist. She was also president of Central Presbyterian Women's Missionary society at the time of her death, and had always been active in the work of the Ladies' Aid Society.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mae Fluent was married to Austin Hayes Bailey by whom she had her son, Thomas Austin Bailey, mentioned above. At the time of her marriage to Charles E. Armstrong in 1917, she was listed as Mae Twamley.

Mae Fluent married (1) Austin Hayes Bailey 28 April 1898 in Faribault, Blue Earth County, Minnesota, (2) Mr. Twamley and (3) Charles E. Armstrong on 14 April, 1917 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
