Miss Flora Beatty Dies Early Today; Funeral on Monday

Miss Flora Beatty, age about 78 years, well known pioneer maiden lady of Nevada, died at 2 a.m. today at the home of her cousin Ralph Van Horn and wife at 527 Polk Boulevard, Des Moines, where she had been removed from Mary Greeley hospital the day before Thanksgiving.

The body was brought to Morfoot Funeral home here at once and will be prepared for burial in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery on Monday afternoon, following funeral rites at the Beatty homestead, 704 Ninth street, with her pastor, Rev. James D. Ransom of Central Presbyterian church in charge.

Funeral arrangements are in strict accordance with her previous expressed wishes.

Miss Beatty had been in failing health for many months and had been growing rapidly weaker for the past few months, although at time making a very remarkable comeback in health.

Flora Beatty, born in Indiana Sept. 19, 1865, is the last of one of the pioneer families of Nevada coming here with her parents, the late John and Susan Beatty, from Indiana, shortly after the Civil war. With her parents, her elder brother, Frank who died as a boy and young brother, William, who died a few years ago, she had lived her entire lifetime in Nevada, graduating from Nevada High School with the class of 1884. She was one of the oldest members of Central Presbyterian church and was always active in the affairs of the church Sunday school and auxilliary societies.

The responsibilities of the administration of the estate left by her father consisting of farm lands in Richland township, has been in her hands for many years and she had been wise and frugal in her business affairs.

Following the passing of her parents, her entire attention was given to the care of the home and looking after the estate, as well as the care and comfort of her brother Will, who had been a deaf mute his entire lifetime.

Miss Beatty was a woman, probably and eccentric in some ways, yet of very fine character and was a valued friend to many in her wide circle of acquaintances and she will be greatly missed.
