LaVonne Clark, age 90, resident of Ballard Creek in Huxley, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019. She was born on January 27, 1929 to John and Anna Bertina Sydnes of Huxley, and attended Slater High School and Iowa State University. She married Maurice Clark on March 21, 1951. LaVonne and Maurice moved to Slater in 1956 and moved to Ames in 1990. LaVonne moved to Ballard Creek in 2017.
LaVonne was involved in her church and community. She also enjoyed volunteering, paint classes and water exercise. She is held in the hearts of her children as a loving, supportive mother, guiding each of us with a gentle hand and heart. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gary Clark (Diane) of Deephaven, MN, Ann Jensen (Greg) of Belleair, FL, David Clark (Annette) of San Jose, CA, Rebecca Williams of Cedar Rapids, IA and her sister, Virginia Lee of Ames, sister-in-law Sherrill (Walt) Behn of Gresham, OR, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Melissa Clark, Aaron Clark, Sarah Jensen (Mike Poch), Amy Kenny (AJ), Ethan Williams, Elise Williams, Emma Clark, Sofia Clark, and two great grandchildren, Joshua and Ethan Poch.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Clark, brother Arnold Sydnes, sisters Beatrice Sydnes, Dorothy Ehm, Flora Freeland and Thelma Monson.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 17th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 411 3rd Ave, Slater, IA 50244. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18th at 10:30 a.m., also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 411 3rd Ave, Slater, IA 50244 followed by lunch in the fellowship hall. Burial will be held at the Slater Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Slater Historical Society.
