OBITUARY

MRS. J. M. WHITNEY

Priscilla Ann Straw was born Sept. 2, 1844 in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, died Sept. 26, 1915 at Pomona, California, her age being 71 years 24 days.

With her father's family she came west in 1855 and settled in Winnebago county, Illinois where she grew to womanhood.

On Oct. 30, 1869 she was married to Joseph M. Whitney. And to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Clara L. Barnhart of Battle Creek, Michigan.

Mr. and Mrs. Whitney located in Nevada, Iowa where they made their home until the Fall of 1913 when they moved to Whittier, California. She accepted the faith of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1874, under the labors of Eld R. M. Kilgore and L. McCoy, of which she has been a consistent follower and a faithful member. Her last days have been among the happiest of her life, and she looked forward to the soon coming of Christ with assuring hope and confidence.

The last Sabbath of her life, Sept. 25, she attended the Quarterly Meeting services, where she took part in celebrating the ordinances of the Lords House.

On Sunday morning, Sept. 26, 1915 about ten o'clock, in company with her husband and son-in-law, Dr. S. E. Barnhart of Battle Creek, Michigan, she met the accident which proved fatal, death resulting instantly.

The deceased is survived by a husband, Joseph M. Whitney of Whitter, California, one daughter, Mrs. Clara L. Barnhart of Battle Creek, Michigan, one sister, Miss Martha E. Straw of Winnebago, Illinois, and three brothers, Wm. S. Straw of Dixon, Illinois, Benton Straw of Winnebago, Illinois, and Prof. D. A. Straw of Wheaton, Illinois.

During the last few days of her life spent here, she enjoyed the companionship of her sister and one brother.
