Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Gladys Wilma Ripley, age 100, of Ames, passed away on January 21, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Ames.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at North Grand Christian Church in Ames. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Gladys’ family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gladys’ name may be left to North Grand Christian Church, 919 30th Street, Ames, Iowa 50010.

Born on January 3, 1919 in Linn County, Iowa, Gladys was the daughter of Gossen and Hattie (Scholten) De Boer. She graduated from Hull High School. Gladys was united in marriage to Neil Ripley on April 6, 1937 in Waterloo. She was a beautician all her life. Gladys was a member of North Grand Christian Church in Ames. She enjoyed dressing up, doing crafts and painting, writing poetry and reading. Gladys had a green thumb and loved to take care of her plants.

Gladys is survived by her daughters: Barbara Magnuson of Ames and June (Robert) Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids; two sons: Merwyn (Nan) Ripley of Nevada and Bob Ripley of Ames; grandchildren: Dave (Carla) Magnuson, Alisa (Jerry) Golay, Scott (Coreen) Magnuson, Carisa (Shawn) Danielson, and Brandon Ripley; 11 great-grandchildren: Shailey Letts, Lindsey (Collin) Hansen, McKenna Magnuson, Lauren Golay, Levi Magnuson, Breanna Magnuson, Lailah Ripley, Jaxon Danielson, Addyson Danielson, and Treyton Danielson; a great-great-grandson, Kohen Carter Ripley Hansen; and a brother, Bernard De Boer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil in 2008; a son-in-law, Richard Magnuson; a granddaughter, Julie Annis, a sister, Augusta Bolks; and three brothers: Donald De Boer, Robert De Boer, and Chester De Boer.
