Last Rites For Charles L. Wright Held Thursday

Funeral services for Charles L. Wright, 1616 Second street, who passed away at Mary Greeley hospital on Tuesday were held from the Morfoot Funeral Home Thursday afternoon with Rev. Hugh C. Guy of the Nevada Christian church officiating.

The very many beautiful flowers banked the entire room where the body was lying in state.

The pall bearers were Otis Angle, Chester Bills, C. J. Muse, Marion Phillips, Guy Selby and Frank Settle. Burial was in the Nevada.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Guy, who also brought a message of comfort to those bereaved.

Obituary

Charles Lee Wright, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo J. Wright, was born in Marshall county, Iowa, on March 8, 1874, and died Tuesday, November 2, 1948, being 74 years, seven months and 25 days old.

When young he came to Story County with his parent where he has lived ever since. He was married to Myrtle Center on January 23, 1901. Eight children were born to them, four sons: Howard J., Homer L., Hiram E., all of Nevada, Iowa, and Glen W. of Minneapolis, Minn., and four daughters: Nellie (Mrs. George Horner) of Jewell, Iowa, Elaine (Mrs. Harry Angle) of Nevada, Iowa, Alma (Mrs. Harold Sills) of Ames, Iowa, and Alice Lorene who died in infancy. He also leaves eight grandchildren, one brother, Ross E. Wright of Tampa, Fla., three sister: Mrs. Minnie Eaton of Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Mabel Hart of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Lenore Terrill of Boone, Iowa.

Mr. Wright was raised a farmer but moved to town and worked in different places in Nevada, then began work for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring at the age of 65 years in October 1939. Since that time he was employed at the Newton Lumber Company until he was forced to quit the work he liked so well, because of a bad heart, and other complications, coming later to ruin his health. Mr. Glen Newton personally spoke to the pastor saying that Mr. Wright was a good workman and a splendid citizen.

Mr. Wright went to Mary Greeley hospital in Ames to seek relief and submitted to surgery Saturday, October 30. He came through this bright and cheerful and was relieved of his pain and suffering for a while, but it proved too much for him and he passed away at the hospital at 5:00 a.m. last Tuesday.

He was hard worker, never leaving anything undone. He had always been able to care for himself until Saturday when he went to the hospital. His one thought was for his family and to have the children and grandchildren together. He was always thinking of others instead of himself and loved to chat with his neighbors. All the family are present today."
