Last Rites Held For Mrs. Lars E. Valen In Story City

Story City, Nov. 5 -- Funeral services were held at the Henderson Funeral Home in Story City Monday afternoon for Mrs. Lars E. Valen, who passed away at her home here in the southwest part on Friday at 7:10 a. m. The Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiated at the services and special numbers were sung by Mrs. Lester Henderson. Interment was in the Story City cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Bert Hill, T. O. Olson, S. T. Johnson, J. E. Erickson, Albert Johnson and Serrol Munsen.

Ingeborg Hanson, daughter of Hans and Anna Hanson, was born Dec. 6, 1846, in Fjeldberg Parish, Sondhordland, Norway and died in Story City on Oct. 31, 1947, at the age of 100 years, 10 months and 25 days.

She was united in marriage to Lars E. Valen Nov. 1, 1868. To this union were born two children, a daughter Margaret, and a son Hans.

Mrs. Valen came to the United States with her daughter in the year 1886, to join her husband and son who had crossed the Atlantic the year before and were living at Gilbert. After seven years residence near Gilbert the family bought a home in Story City in 1893 where Mrs. Valen lived until her death. She had been up and around and able to care for herself until last August when she became bedfast.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret and a son Hans L. Valen, both of Story City. She also leaves a granddaughter, Mrs. W. A. Craig, also of Story city and great grandson, William Craig of New York City.
