November 8, 1926 - November 14, 2018

Doris Whitaker, age 92, of Nevada, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 17, 2018, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Visitation will begin at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Born November 8, 1926, in Illinois Grove, Iowa, Doris Jean Whitaker was the daughter of Edgar and Wilma (Botts) Reed. She married Charles R. Whitaker on March 16, 1942, in Missouri. Doris and Charles had two children, Carol and Dennis.

Doris was employed at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for 25 years, then worked several years for the U.S. Census Bureau. She took great pride in her home and was a wonderful cook. Her outgoing personality was contagious and enabled her to form friendships easily.

Doris was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Questers, and Friendship Force of Iowa. She enjoyed golfing at Indian Creek Country Club, her various bridge clubs, and traveling.

Survivors include two children, Carol Johnson of Winthrop, and Dennis (Susan) Whitaker of Nevada; three grandchildren, Michael (Diane) Johnson, Denise (Stan) Reed, and Jill (Tadd) Whitaker Griffith; four great-grandchildren, Carlie Myers, Breanne Pink, and Katie and Grace Reed; and two great-great-grandchildren, Caden and McCoy Pink. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Trombley of Soldotna, AK; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a brother, Wayne Reed.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Doris and her family.
