Norma was born on October 11, 1933 to Hannah (Gunderson) and Gifford Stonewall in Gilman, Iowa. She was the 10th of 10 children. As a child, she loved all the animals on the farm, especially the cats and chickens. She grew quickly and began playing varsity basketball by 7th grade. After high school, she married Lester (Les) Campbell and they moved to California for four years while he served in the Navy. There she worked as a bank teller and enjoyed being on the beach and horseback riding in the hills surrounding Port Hueneme. They returned to Iowa and she supported Les while he attended college in Iowa City. In 1959, they moved Des Moines and started a family. Norma loved being a mother and dedicated herself to nurturing her children. She sewed, cooked, baked, helped with craft projects, played driveway basketball, helped set up impromptu “plays”, and read to her children single every night. She spent countless hours at church, the Little League fields, hockey rink, dance studio and gymnastics facility. When Les founded Campbell Oil Company in 1972 in Ames, Iowa, she returned to work and helped him run the business for over 40 years. They were able to travel a bit and especially enjoyed meeting relatives in Norway and in Ireland.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Les, her grandson Brandon, and her siblings: Archie, Gerald, Myron, Frances, Donald, Robert Vernon, Maxine, and Nadine. She is survived by her children Mark Campbell (Debra), Leslie Hansen (Todd), Steele Campbell, Anne Campbell, her brother Robert “Jiggs” Stonewall (Donna), and grandchildren Jordan Dierickx (Scott), Alyssa Campbell (Richard Fuentes), Matt Hansen, Paige Cranwell, Claire Hansen, George Cranwell and Brooke Cranwell, sister-in-law Jean Campbell Carlson and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family sincerely requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. Donations in Norma’s memory may be made online at www.Alz.org or by mail to: Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
