Funeral services for Obel Nelson, 40, who died at Boone March 24, were held at the Welin Chapel Boone, Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Rugen Spong of Augustana Lutheran Church in charge, using text 1 Corinthians 13:12. Mrs. Paul Hellwege sang two song, "In the Garden" and "Face to Face" with Mrs. John Mahoney at the piano. Burial took place at Nevada, Iowa. Pallbearers were Ross Shipley, Chas. Moss, Raymond Veale, Cecil Ferry, Farris Bettis, and Walter Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jackson were in charge of the flowers.

Obel M. Nelson was born August 5, 1903, at St. Paul, Minnesota and passed away at his home March 24, 1944, at the age of 40 years, 7 months and 19 days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelson of St. Paul, Minnesota, who preceded him in death when he was but a mere child. The death of his parents left him and his four brothers homeless until they made their home with their aunt* in Nevada, Iowa.

At the early age of 14 he went out alone into the world to make a way for himself. After having completed a barber course in St. Paul he enlisted in the U. S. Army spending three years in Alaska. He returned to his birthplace to continued his trade, later on coming to Boone where he had followed this trade for the past 15 years.

Mr. Nelson was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Rasmussen of Nevada, Iowa, on October 6, 1925. God blessed them with one child, Betty. He was confirmed at the Memorial Lutheran Church at Nevada. Mr. Nelson had bee in ill health for the past few months.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Ruth Nelson, and one daughter, Betty, four brothers, Clarence E. Nelson, Vernon Center, Minn., Roy A. Nelson, Chief Warrant Officer of the Navy, Phillip S. Nelson, Cambridge, Iowa, and Hans T. Nelson, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, other relatives and a large host of friends.

Mr. Nelson was a devoted husband and father to his family, had many friends because he was a friend to all and went about his work quietly and diligently. Because of this we do not understand nor can we reason the why of his untimely passing. There are many things that we cannot see nor understand until we see through the eyes of eternity.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: In the 1910 Nevada, Story County, Iowa census, the Nelson brothers are living with Anna Hanson, aged 64, born in Denmark who immigrated to the U. S. in 1879.
