DEATHS

MRS. MARY NELSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Nelson, widow of Peter Nelson, former residents of Story City, and later, Stratford, was held from Stratford Lutheran Church, Jan. 18, with Rev. Anton Youngquist in charge. Organist was Mrs. Anton Youngquist and Mrs. Ashley Phipps sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Jesus Lover of my Soul."

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Richard Carmichael, Robert Nelson, Joe Pulliam, David Dysart, Mark Anderson and Dale Anderson.

Mrs. Mary Nelson, 82 years, 8 months and 18 days, died Jan. 15 at Ruth's Nursing Home, Boone, Iowa, where she had been a resident for the past six years.

She was born April 28, 1886 in Omaha, Nebr. to Ole and Marie Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Rosenburg, Nebr. She was a member of this church until April 14, 1946 when she transferred to the Stratford Lutheran Church, where she remained a member until her death.

On July 18, 1911, she was united in marriage to Peter Nelson. To this union five children were born. They are Mrs. Walter (May) Anderson, Boone; Ralph Nelson, Story City; Mrs. Julian (Zora) Dysart of Marshalltown; Harry Nelson of Denver, Colo. and daughter, Pearl Marie, who died in infancy.

For 30 years the Nelson lived on a farm west of Story City. In 1942 they moved to Stratford where they lived until her husband's death.

Survivors include four children before mentioned, a brother, Nels P. Thompson, of Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
