Obituraries

MRS. MABEL MARVICK

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Marvick, 85, were held Tuesday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City, with Pastor Orville D. Sanderson officiating. A service was also held at Bethany Manor at 10 a.m. with Pastor Enoch Hall officiating. Louise Olson was organist and Rita Ullestad, soloist.

Casketbearers were Michael Lund, Rodney Ullestad, David Handeland, Steven Erickson, Robert Tate and Craig Amenson. Burial was at the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Mabel Selma Marvick was born Feb. 8, 1895 to Bryner and Alice Lund in Hamilton County, Iowa. She passed away April5, 1980 at the Story City Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.

Mabel was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lake Center. She attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa; the Chicago School of Nursing, and the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn.

She was school teacher, nurse, and Sunday school teacher. For twelve years she was a missionary in Bolivia. During this time, she was instrumental in opening three mission stations and starting an orphanage. For the rest of her life she was a member of the World Mission Prayer League and was often a guest speaker. Mabel wrote a book, "Cherished Echoes" from the Travelog of Life.

On Sept. 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Albert M. Marvick.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two brothers, Arthur and Lawrence Lund; and a sister, Ida Isakson.

Survivors include her foster sister, Alice Tietgen; and many nieces and nephews.
