Mrs. J. B. Kirk Funeral Services Held At Loring
Funeral services for Mrs. J. B. (Flossie) Kirk were held at the Loring Evangelical United Brethren Church, April 10 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul F. McKinley officiating. Burial was in the Mount Zion cemetery.
Pat Cleverly was soloist with Mrs. Summitt accompanying on the organ.
Life Sketch
Flossie Kirk, daughter of William and Hannah Jones, was born November 29, 1882, five miles southwest of Maxwell in the Loring community and died on April 8, 1962 at 1:35 a.m. at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 79 years.
She spent her entire life at the place of her birth aside from a period of time when she studied piano and vocal music at Bethany College in West Virginia.
She married J. B. Kirk on February 24, 1909 and they made their home on the present Kirk farm east of Loring. They united with the Loring Evangelical United Brethren Church by profession of faith on April 26, 1936 under the ministry of the Rev. J. I. LaFavre and have been active members throughout the years. Mrs. Kirk held office in the missionary organization of the church now known as the Women's Society of World Service.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, George Jones, John T. Jones, Mrs. Lizzie Kurtz, Mrs. I. F. Neff and Mrs. Martha Nash.
Mrs. Kirk is survived by her husband, as well as three nieces, Mrs. William Chase of Des Moines, Mrs. Bob Burns of Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs. Cleo Trotter of Des Moines. Also surviving is a nephew, William Jones of rural Maxwell.
