Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs. Jennie Heers

Story City, July 3--Last rites held in Story City Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Jennie Heers, a former resident here, who passed away Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walker Nelson, in Ames. The services were conducted at 2 o'clock in the Grace Evangelical U. B. Church where Mrs. Heers had retained her membership. Rev. W. E. Ulrich, pastor of the church who officiated was assisted by Rev. C. D. Wendell. Special music was provided in a duet sung by Mrs. John Adduci and Mrs. Everett Anderson. The floral offerings were beautiful and the memorial gifts were many. The body was laid to rest in the Center Cemetery southwest of Story City.

Mrs. Jennie Heers, the daughter of Marcus and Keziah Miller was born at Bethany, Mo. Feb. 21, 1859. She later moved to a home near Des Moines where she met and married Frank W. Heers on Feb. 15, 1883. They then moved to a farm near Story City where the greater part of their lives was spent. To this union was born nine children, three having preceded her in death, namely Ralph in infancy, Hazel three years and Laura, Mrs. Ira Christiansen, Feb. 16, 1925. Her husband, Frank, died on March 3, 1939. Since that time she made her home with her children.

On June 27, 1948 at the home of her daughter, Mabel, Mrs. Walter Nelson she passed away at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 5 days. Besides this daughter she leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mayme, Mrs. Mandus Tieg of Story City and Ethel, Mrs. Roy Balude of El Monte, Calif., three sons, Dr. Walter C. Heers of Atlantic, Ray W. Heers of Amboy, Minn. and Harry E. Heers of Corona, Calif., one brother, Ward Miller of Des Moines, 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, also Nellie, Mrs. Chas. Tressler of Story city, who made her home with the family as a girl.

During the many years that Mrs. Heers and her husband lived in and near Story City they took an active part in the life of the church and the community. She was a faithful wife and mother and taught her children the love of the Lord. She derived much comfort from the Bible and spiritual helps and prayed earnestly for her dear one. Her kindly ways and sweet smile will long be remembered by those who knew her.
