Obituaries

Herbert Halleland

Funeral services for Herbert Halleland were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Church, Randall, with burial in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Pastor Donald L. Berg officiated. Sharon Quam was organist. "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Lead On, O King Eternal" was sung by the Congregation. Delbert Quam, soloist, sang, "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name."

Pall bearers were James Peterson, Larry Frankhaouser, Keith Halleland, Robert Halleland, Lee Leary and Bill Sabus.

Herbert Julis Halleland, the son of Helge and Ann (Kold) Halleland, was born in Story City on July 31, 1900, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City.

On March 30, 1924 he was united in marriage to Lillian Skeie, at the Skeie farm home near Randall. They began their married life in Des Moines, then after two years moved to Randall, Iowa, where he was active in the lumber business for fifty years. He passed away at Mary Greeley Hospital Wednesday morning, Jan. 21.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Burdell (June) Brekken, Glencoe, Illinois, Mrs. William (Ruth) Gabrielson, Story City, Herbert Halleland, Jr., of Blairsburg and John Halleland of Randall; also twelve grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Lumer (Agnes) Olsan of Springfield, Illinois, Mrs. Henry (Thora) Jacobson, Story City, and Mrs. Elmer (Hildreth) Moore of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; one brother, Peter Halleland and one sister, Mrs. A. L. (Betsey) Born.
