Gerald Paul Bearden was welcomed home by his lord and savior on Nov.5, 2018 to be reunited with his mother Amanda Bearden, his loving sister Charlene Bridges and his two brothers Francis and Harvey Bearden. Gerry is survived by his wife Janet (Jann) Bearden, a son Korey Bearden of Kennewick, WA., daughters Amy Fritz of Nevada, Krisha (Nick) Birdsall of Flower Mound, TX. and Erin German of Ankeny. He was also blessed with his grandchildren, that he called his “GREAT 8”; Lauren Reece, Connor Reece, Madeline Birdsall, Jack Bearden, Logan Bearden, Josie Bearden, Ashlyn Fritz and Avery Fritz. Other loving family members include his brother Johnny Bearden, two sisters Christy (Marvin) Colley and Cindy (Dale) McMillian, brother in law Bruce Bridges, sister in law Bonnie Bearden and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald Paul Bearden was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 12, 1947. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High school in 1965. Gerry was then called by his friends and neighbors to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. He was very proud to serve his country and always respected our nation and flag. Gerry was a long- time member of the American Legion post 334 in McCallsburg, Iowa.
Following his discharge from the Army, Gerry moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where he met the love of his life. Gerry and Jann were married on March 3rd 1969. Gerry began a career in finance which transferred them to the Ames area and then settled in Huxley, where his three children were born. He did not find his career choice to be rewarding and began attending DMACC and was employed by ISU security. He was then hired by the Story County Sheriff’s Department in 1977 where he found his calling and passion and served with all his heart and soul for 22 years. In 1978, Gerry and his family moved to an acreage near McCallsburg where they enjoyed life on the farm for 38 years. Here he became a member of Bethany Lutheran church where he served in many capacities.
Gerry established his own consulting business, reconstructing accidents until 2016. This was something that allowed Gerry and Jann to travel together all over Iowa and surrounding states.
Gerry and Jann moved from the acreage to Ankeny in 2014 to enjoy retirement. They took many trips over the past several years that often included their family. Gerry was so proud of his children and his “Great 8” and all of their accomplishments. If you were with him he would tell you all about all of them. Gerry began attending Renew Church in Ames and so enjoyed Pastor Aaron Vis and again became a part of a loving church community.
Gerry loved playing fast pitch softball until he got to old and then took up golf.
He so enjoyed being with family and friends and just enjoying life.He was blessed with a very close loving family and many close dear friends that
loved him.God bless the life of Gerry Bearden.
