Charles “Charlie” Thomas Chaplin, 77, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 31 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 1 at the Nevada Baptist Church in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Reynolds officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Charlie was born August 12, 1941, in Cowles, Nebraska, the son of C. Bernard and Gertrude Anna (Crabill) Chaplin. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1959 and served in the United States Army from 1963-1967. On August 24, 1968, Charlie was united in marriage to Nancy Rose Stewart in Centerville, Iowa. He attended DMACC, studying mechanical technology, graduating in 1970. Charlie worked as a tool designer for many years at Bourns and eventually retired from Danfoss in 2008.

Charlie was a member of the Nevada Baptist Church and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and music, especially singing and playing his clarinet. Charlie had a knack for being able to fix anything. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy of Nevada; his son, Wesley (Michelle) Chaplin of Pella; his daughter, Wendy (Mark) Vander Linden of Jefferson; his grandchildren: Nathan Chaplin and fiancée Nicole Van Wyk, Noah Chaplin, Courtney Chaplin, Gavin Vander Linden and Lucy Vander Linden; his brother, Gerald (Becky) Chaplin of Numa, and his sister, Bernadine (Garry) Cowan of Centerville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Baptist Church.
