Obituary From Boeke Funeral Homes, Hardin County, Iowa.
Francis Earl Sime, the son of Eddie and Ida (Ritland) Sime, was born April 15, 1941 in Story City, Iowa. He died Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, at the age of 77.
Earl was raised on the family farm in SW Hardin County, rural Radcliffe, Iowa. He attended Roland Consolidated School, graduating in 1959. During high school Earl played basketball, being a part of the 1958 state championship team, and baseball, as the catcher. Earl felt that growing up in the Roland area during his time he had the best of everything, school, teachers, sports, churches, strong families, good farmers, and close neighbors. He wouldn’t have traded it for anything. It was something he talked about to anyone who would listen!!
After high school Earl attended Farm Operation Classes at Iowa State University and started farming with his dad. He continued to farm until he retired in 2001.
Earl saw a picture and small article about the new secretary at Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp and decided to look her up. Thirteen months later, Earl and Donna (Suss) were married on February 24, 1979, at Lost Island Lutheran Church, rural Graettinger, Iowa.
Earl was involved in farm organizations and always had an interest in history and politics. He had a deep love for animals, especially cats. He enjoyed attending Iowa State basketball games for many years. Earl enjoyed the years he and Donna attended Heartland Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Donna Sime, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Lorraine Buntrock, Britton, South Dakota, sister-in-law, Linda Suss, Laguna Woods, California, nephew and nieces, Jeff (Tami) Buntrock, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Jill (Paul) Fonder, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Jennifer (Gerard) McCusker, Rancho Santa Margarita, California, great-nephews and great-nieces, Derrick (Beth) Buntrock, Nathan Buntrock, Kayla Fonder, Logan Fonder, and Michaela McCusker, one aunt and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Kenneth Suss, and nephew, Michael Suss.
