Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Evelyn June Dyer, 83, passed November 1, 2018 surrounded by family at home in Story City, Iowa. Evelyn was born to Frank and Mary Elizabeth Ackerman (Bates) in Nevada, Iowa, June 30, 1935. She married Gene Dyer February 6, 1952. They lived in Ames, Boone, Adel, Roland and Story City. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene in December 1995 and 4 siblings, Francis Ackerman, Jeanne Cavender, Larry Ackerman and an infant brother Paul Edward. She also was preceded in death by grandson, Joshua Dyer and great-grandson, Weston Patterson as well as her dear companion, Howard Johnson of Jewell, Iowa.

She is survived by her 4 children, Deborah Rouse of Sheldon, Iowa, Michael Dyer of Atlanta, Georgia, Scott and wife Cindy Dyer of Atlanta, GA and Rick and wife Holly Dyer of Austin, Texas. Evelyn is blessed with 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her sisters Margaret Okland of Kelley, Iowa, Dorothy and husband Russell Beckley of Ames, Iowa and Mary Elizabeth and husband Terry Landis of Ankeny, Iowa and sister in-law Mary Lou Ackerman of Ames, Iowa.

Evelyn was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed dancing, flower gardening, sewing, bird watching and any activities surrounding family and friends. Her time with her friends playing cards and having coffee at McDonalds each morning was a pleasure she enjoyed almost daily. Family remember traditions of playing Scrabble and Cribbage late into the night hours during get togethers. We all enjoyed the Story City Carousel numerous times throughout the years of visiting her and spending Scandinavian Days in Story City. Evelyn was a member of St. Celicia Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa and attended mass with her friend Maxine Jacobson of Story City, Iowa.

Friends and family visitation will be held Monday, November 5, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Adams- Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette, Story City, Iowa. Funeral Mass Tuesday, November 6, 2018 10:30 am at St Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa with luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be at Story City Cemetery.
