Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Rick Pietz, 61, of Huxley, passed away on October 26, 2018 after a short courageous battle with cancer. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, IA. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, October 29 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, IA.
Richard Elmer Pietz was born in Comfrey, MN on November 17, 1956. He graduated from Ames High School and continued his education at Ryder Technical Institute. He began his career as an auto mechanic for George White Chevrolet and ended his career 40 years later with them as a part-time transport driver. At the young age of 20, he owned and operated Precision Auto Clinic and eventually sold it. Passionate about golf, he purchased Twin Anchors Golf Course in 1996 and sold it in 2005.
He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Borgen, in 1980. They raised two sons, Nick and Nate, in the Ballard School district. Rick had a strong sense of family. He was very involved and supportive of his sons’ athletics and attended hundreds of their golf, basketball and football games, both at home and away. He cherished his two grandchildren, so he travelled to Cedar Rapids often.
Rick was a member of the Ames Elks organization and was a long-time member at the Ballard Country Club where he got his one and only hole-in-one. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting, restoring and showing classic cars. His 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner won first place at the Midwest Mopar Car Show. He loved rock n roll, attended numerous concerts and had quite a large music collection.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sons, Nicholas (Michelle) of Cedar Rapids, Nathan (Morgan) of Ames; grandchildren, Lincoln and Nora of Cedar Rapids; brother, Michael (Jody) of Ames; sisters, Meri Coles (Ron) of Vonore, TN and Dr. Patricia Pietz of Bowling Green, KY. He was preceded in death by both parents, Donald and Lois.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Dr. Joe Rhoades Cancer Compassion Fund at Mary Greeley Medical Center or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
