Melvin A. Peter was born on April 14, 1927 to George and Helena (Rambath) Peter. His journey in life ended on October 25, 2018. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Boone, Iowa.

He attended Harrison Township #2 school through 8th grade and Story City High School graduating in 1946. He was always proud to share the legacy that during his junior and senior years he was a member on the undefeated football teams.

After graduation he worked on the family farmed and helped to raise his younger brothers. On June 25, 1950 he married the love of his life, Dorothy E. (Lenning) Peter and happily married for 65 years. They resided on the one of the Peter homesteads where they farmed and raised their children, Calvin (Donalyn) Peter, Osage, IA, Jerilyn (Terry) Rasmusson and Doretta (Don) Hoffmann, Story City, IA. When he retired from farming, they moved to Story City.

He was a bus driver and part-time custodian for Roland-Story schools over 20 years and was known as the favorite bus driver to many children.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite team was the Chicago Cubs and was excited to witness the World Series Championship in 2016. He enjoyed attending sporting events to watch his children and grandchildren participate.

He was a proud grandpa and great-grandpa to, Melissa (Andy) Curry, Kenna and Josie, Elk Point, SD Ben (Jen) Peter, Kaylee, Karly, Khloe, Plainview, MN, Josh (Kristi) Rasmusson, Raena and Paige, Ankeny, IA, Pete Rasmusson, Las Vegas, NV, Drew Rasmusson (Cassidy), West Des Moines, IA, Jon Hoffmann, Oskaloosa, IA, Andrew (Sarah) Hoffmann), Mount Vernon, IA.

He is survived by his brothers, Richard (Pat) Peter and Jim (Carol) Peter, children, grand-children, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, siblings-Eleornora, Laurina, Norman, Hubert, Leonard, Emmet and Curtis, daughter-in-law, Connie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, niece and nephew.

He was a wonderful husband, dad, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother to all and loved with his whole heart. He gave so much of himself with his quick wit, smile and laughter that he will always be remembered by all who knew him.
